September 2017 Newsletter

Hello Haen Families!
We are excited about the successful start to a new school year!
Thank you for taking the time to read through the Haen Newsletter.
You will find information about our school and the community.

The home to school connection is so important in supporting our
young learners.  Please know if you have any questions, concerns or celebrations
that we would love for you to connect with us!

Sincerely,
Holly Magness
Principal

September Calendar:

  • September 18-21 Safety Week, More Information to Come!
  • September 22: No School for Students
  • September 25: PAC Mtg 5-6 PM
  • September 26: School Picture Day

Our staff welcome personal contact from our families.  Given that staff spend the majority of their day with students during instruction, it is more convenient for parents or guardians to communicate with their child’s teacher via voicemail or email.

Voice Mail: All school personnel have a voice mailbox. By calling our office at 766-6134, you can request that office personnel transfer you to the voice mail of the individual you are trying to reach. After school hours, you will receive a prompt to enter a known extension, request a directory or simply leave a general message in the main mailbox.

Email: To email any district staff member, use the following format: full last name and first initial followed by @kaukaunasd.org

Please reach out to your student's teacher to connect home to school as you may need to.

To request a Parent Portal account please complete the form here.  You may also find this information on the District website/Family Resources/Technology Tools/Need A Parent Portal Account.  Thank you for staying connected!

NEW THIS YEAR!  All community flyers will be found on the district web page. Click here to access information about Boy Scouts and Kaukauna Dance for this month.  Anyone requesting flyer distribution at the elementary level should submit an electronic copy to district office, attention Erin Kape at kapee@kaukaunasd.org for consideration two weeks prior to the first of each month.

Families are asked to call a separate absence line at 759-6159. This system is utilized for all the schools and is available 24 hours per day. When you call, you will hear “for Haen School, press “1”. Then you will be able to leave your absence message. Parents or guardians are requested to call the school by 8:30 a.m., each day their child is unable to attend school. If a reason is not given for your child’s absence, your child will be marked Absent Unexcused.

AM Drop Off
Student supervision begins at 7:35 AM.  For student safety, all we ask that all students be dropped off in the back of school on High Street, staying away from the bus drop off area.  Support staff will be available to help cross students. Students should proceed directly to the appropriate playground via the sidewalk upon arrival. Students enter the building when the 7:45 bell rings. Students who arrive after the bell need to enter the building through the front doors and be signed in to the office by a parent or guardian.  Thank

PM Dismissal
: All students are dismissed at 3:10. These students will exit our school accompanied by a classroom teacher on the Haen Drive side (front) near the playground not the main entrance doors.

Walkers who live on the High Street side (back) of school will continue walking around the north side of school over the primary playground and on the sidewalks to the bus area and the High Street crossing guard.

Walkers who live on the Haen Drive side (front) of school will continue to the crossing guard near the circle drive and cross there.

All students who receive rides from parents or adults will be picked up in the front of school.  We ask that no cars park in the circle drive directly in front of school. Students must use the sidewalks and crossing guards to go to the appropriate car.  Students should not be cutting across the grass or crossing the circle drive. For safety reasons there is no parking or standing in the diagonally marked EMERGENCY VEHICLE AREA in front of each entrance.

NO PICK UPS WILL BE ALLOWED ON HIGH STREET (back of school). We are doing this to clearly separate our riders from our bus students for supervision and safety purposes.

Thank you families for helping keep our students safe
and accounted for during drop off an pick up time!

Drivers, for the safety of our children, please slow down in School Zones. Discuss with your child the importance of crossing only in the crosswalk with a crossing guard in the back by the buses and in the front. It is also very important that you discuss with your children the importance of walking near buses and cars. With your assistance, we can keep our students safe.
